Surah Balad in English
Here is an English translation of Surah Balad:
I swear by this city, And you are a resident in this city, And by the father and what he begot, Indeed, We have created man into hardship. Does he think that no one has power over him? He says, “I have wasted much wealth.” Does he think that no one sees him? Have We not given him two eyes, And a tongue and two lips, And guided him to the two ways? But he has not attempted the uphill road. And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? It is the freeing of a slave, Or feeding on a day of severe hunger An orphan of near relationship, Or a needy person in misery. Then he became one of those who believed and advised each other to patience and advised each other to compassion. These are the companions of the right. But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the companions of the left. Over them will be fire closed in.
